Tools beside the selection

Tools appear after selection and hide while adjusting the crop. Move or hide the palette whenever needed. Shown with sample data.

What N3X Shot can do

Precise capture

Crop in source-image pixels, including Retina screenshots. Restore the last exported region or capture after a 3, 5 or 10-second delay.

Editable annotations

Select, move, resize, recolor, duplicate and reorder annotations. Undo and redo up to 100 operations, including crop changes.

Offline Polish and English OCR

Recognize and copy text from the current crop. OCR models ship with the app; the image stays on your computer.

Review before redacting

Review suggestions for emails, IP addresses and selected tokens, or search for your own text. You choose which areas to cover. Suggestions can miss information — inspect the final image.

File and clipboard images

Open PNG, JPEG and WebP files or paste an image from your clipboard. Use the same editor for screenshots and existing images.

Export and framing

Save PNG, JPEG with adjustable quality, or lossless WebP. Set the scale, background, padding and corners. Frames include a shadow.

Pin images to your screen

Keep up to eight finished images in separate windows. Copy, save and toggle always-on-top mode.

Zoom, shortcuts and commands

Zoom in, pan with Space and find tools with Ctrl/Cmd+K. Set your own global shortcut or start a capture from the tray menu.

Tools for explaining

Add arrows, ellipses, multiline text, numbered steps and spotlight. Pick colors from the image; Shift helps draw 45-degree angles and squares.

How to install

  1. 1Choose the Windows installer (.exe) or the macOS disk image (.dmg).
  2. 2Run the .exe installer, or open the .dmg and move N3XShot to Applications.
  3. 3Launch N3XShot. On macOS, allow the app to capture your screen. Start your first capture from the app icon menu; choose your own shortcut in Settings.
  4. 4Check for new releases in the app settings. Downloading and installing updates requires an internet connection and your confirmation.

Windows may display a SmartScreen prompt. Download installers only from n3x.pl or the official N3XShot releases repository. macOS releases are signed with a Developer ID certificate and notarized by Apple.

Changelog

    • FixArrows have a sharp tip without a protruding dot, including thick strokes and short arrows. The fix applies to the preview, clipboard and exports.
    • NewMore → Customize toolbar lets you choose the tools shown immediately after a capture, reorder them and restore defaults. Your choices are remembered for future captures, with the remaining tools available under More.
    • NewSettings are accessible from the macOS application menu via N3XShot → Settings… and the ⌘, shortcut, as well as the editor's gear button.
    • FixOpening settings preserves the screenshot being edited, and closing them restores the editor. Reopening the application from Finder or Spotlight shows settings.
    • ImprovementTools have labels, a distinct active state with a checkmark and always-visible instructions for the selected mode. Selection and arrow drawing use different icons, and the active color is highlighted.
    • FixCapture instructions no longer display literal HTML entities. The tool palette now fits small screens more reliably.
    • FixClicking a tool icon clearly marks it with a cyan icon, border and highlighted background. Fixed a style override that hid the selected button state, making tool selection appear unresponsive.
    • FixTab and Shift+Tab navigate visible palette controls in macOS WebKit as well, skipping disabled controls and returning to the image at either end.
    • ImprovementA compact palette replaces the fixed editor bars. It appears after selection, finds available space beside the crop and hides while drawing, moving or resizing. Additional functions are available under More.
    • ImprovementDrag the palette, move its grip with the arrow keys or hide it using Tab on the image or F8. Pressing C clears the tools before recropping, allowing selection to start where the palette was previously displayed.

N3XShot

N3XShot captures your screen, adds annotations and extracts text from images. Screenshots and OCR results stay on your computer.

Requirements and installation

Windows 11 or macOS (Intel or Apple Silicon).

  1. Download the ready installer using the download button on this page.
  2. On Windows, open the .exe file and follow the installer. On macOS, open the .dmg file and drag the app into Applications.
  3. Open the installed app.

Use the current release linked on the product page. Installation does not require source code or developer tools.

Take your first screenshot

  1. Open the app from the Start menu or Applications. Its icon appears in the Windows tray or macOS menu bar.
  2. Start a capture from the app icon or your global shortcut. The default macOS shortcut is Cmd+Shift+2.
  3. Select an area. A tool palette appears beside the selection.
  4. Add arrows or text, or cover selected information. Copy the image or export it as PNG, JPEG or WebP.

Useful shortcuts

  • R — rectangle, A — arrow, T — text, D — redact information.
  • C — crop again; Esc cancels the change.
  • F8 — hide or show the palette.
  • Ctrl/Cmd+Z — undo.
  • Ctrl/Cmd+C — copy, Ctrl/Cmd+S — export.
  • Ctrl/Cmd+V — open an image from the clipboard.
  • Ctrl/Cmd+K — search commands.

Settings and troubleshooting

Open settings from the app icon to choose the language, global shortcut and startup behavior. On Windows, you can assign the Print Screen key to N3XShot.

If macOS cannot capture the screen, enable N3XShot in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording, then quit and reopen the app.

If the palette covers part of the image, drag its handle or hide it with F8. OCR runs locally; review suggested redactions before sharing an image because recognition can miss information.
